Caption
Carrion beetle with mites (genus Poecilochirus). These mites use the beetles for transportation between the carcasses they feed on (that is, they are "phoretic"). The mites also feed on fly eggs, perhaps reducing competition between flies and beetles, but at the same time they feed on carrion, in direct competition with the beetles.
