Neritina pulligera

Neritina pulligera. Top and bottom views, and an operculum. The Neritidae live in both marine and fresh water environments. The freshwater Neritidae are stream dwellers, usually inhabiting swift streams. Their shells have evolved into a more streamlined shape to resist being dislodged by water currents. Opercula in the family are characterized by a peg that is imbedded in the foot muscle for added firmness of attachment.
