This spotted seahorse specimen (Hippocampus kuda) is has an obvious brood pouch protruding from its abdomen-- an overt characteristic of male seahorses. This is a medium sized species, which typically have a lifespan in the wild of four to five years. The spots and mottled appearance help blend the seahorse into its surroundings.
